The Firm recently advised Herbert Smith Freehills LLP for Bloomberg LP. The advise related to the Sind Disability Law and the powers of the provincial government in collecting information regarding employees with disability and the law regarding compliance on data for the same.
Pakistan does not have a separate data protection law however identity data has been accorded protection under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. Rights of employees with disabilities is also accorded specialized protection under the provincial and federal law regarding disability.
The Firm’s eventual advise to Bloomberg centered on the common principle of consent regarding data protection found within the law on disabilities and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
