Supreme Court of Pakistan on Covid-19

The very same Supreme Court of Pakistan that had ordered opening up of shopping malls vide their order dated 18.05.2020 and had ridiculed the Government for closing shops on Saturdays and Sundays while stating that “does the Corona virus work on these days?” now realizing the mistake it made (though not acknowledging it publicly) has asked the Government to regulate closing of shops and malls on Saturdays and Sundays.  The Supreme Court in its order had even gone to the extent of asking the provinces too to follow the policies of the Central Government.

The number of infections in Pakistan have multiplied 04 times during the date of the previous order and this present one.

The process of taking suo moto actions by the superior judiciary has a history which spans from 2007 to the present date. Perhaps Justice Khosa was the only one who did not interfere in the working of the Executive but his tenure was quite short and failed to mark any difference in this practice which the superior judiciary in Pakistan has embarked upon.
