While the whole world post Covid-19 may be moving towards cutting unwanted spending on defense expenditure we in Pakistan are thinking of cutting the economic autonomy of Provinces. The 18th Constitutional Amendment is an excellent piece of legislation which provides autonomy to provinces on the issue of provincial budgets and control of natural resources such as mining. Doing away with the 18th Amendment will mean that the provinces which are the actual owners of the resources stay impoverished whereas all the money goes to the center. Doing away with the 18th Amendment should be opposed by all political parties. Perhsps the action is very much like a restructuring move which a major corporation would have done post covid-19 however this particular restrucuring is at the cost of the Country and is actually the restrucuring of the Country.
