The Electronic Transactions Ordinance 2002 provides the very much required validation of electronic communications in Pakistan. The Ordinance provides legal cover to electronic documents and electronic signatures. The communication is deemed received at the place of residence or business of the addressee. This Ordinance provides legal cover to electronic communications in times such as the ones we are confronted with presently when the physical presence of people and documents is difficult.
Whereas the Ordinance provides legal cover to electronic communications simultaneously by virtue of the same cover it gives rise to he creation of rights and obligations. Offer letters and contracts if communicated electronically will be binding legal documents the legal validity of which will be difficult to be challenged in light of this Ordinance.
For now in a Covid-19 scenario this Ordinance can provide aid to local business.
